Vinnie Jones has slammed the lack of security in English football after pitch invaders were able to confront Jack Grealish and Chris Smalling.On a ugly day for the game, Aston Villa captain Grealish was punched from behind by Birmingham fan Paul Mitchell, and just hours later an Arsenal supporter appeared to shove Manchester United defender Smalling.Both men were arrested but concerns have been raised as to how easily they were able to access the players.The Professional Footballers’ Association said: There needs to be a full inquiry into the incident to ascertain why in a fixture with such a charged history, a fan was able to run onto the pitch virtually unchallenged and assault a player.”3

And former Wimbledon midfielder Jones has blasted the level of security at such high-profile football matches, claiming it’s woefully inadequate around the country, not just at St Andrew’s and the Emirates.“There’s millions of pounds in the game and we have students and young kids acting as stewards,” he told the Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast.“I had more security at my wedding! “Professional security, that’s what we need. You go to a nightclub, there isn’t just some student there.“I think that’s weak, banning them from the ground. This might be the first game he’s been to. That’s not going to hurt anybody.”Mitchell, 27, will appear at Birmingham Magistrates’ Court later today after being charged with invading the pitch and assault.3

Grealish dished out his own justice by keeping his calm and recovering from the assault to eventually score the winner in the Second City derby.Birmingham and Arsenal both condemned the incidents and promised to issue lifetime bans.Meanwhile, Dean Saunders has called for Mitchell to be jailed following the cowardly attack on Grealish.3
