Transfer news: Bayern Munich announce signing of World Cup winner Benjamin Pavard from Stuttgart
Bayern Munich have confirmed they have signed Benjamin Pavard from Stuttgart.The defender has signed a pre-agreement contract that will see his switch go through from the 1 July on a five-year contract with Bayern.3

Pavard made 71-appearances for Stuttgart after his 5million move from Lille in 2016

The German club’s sporting director Hasan Salihamidzic confirmed the signing via his own Twitter account.

“We are happy and proud that Bayern Munich was able to recruit a young player and world champion Benjamin Pavard as an important transfer for the future of our club,”Salihamidzic said.After a successful summer with France at the World Cup, Pavard had been linked with a host of names in Europe and the Premier League.3

Hasan Salihamidzic made 234 appearances for Bayern and was named Sporting Director in July 2017

Liverpool, Chelsea and Tottenham were all linked with the 22-year-old defender.Pavard’s preferred position is in central defence, where he played a combined 56 times for Stuttgart and French side Lille, but was used as a right back during France’s winning World Cup campaign, starting ahead of Monaco’s Djibril Sidibe.

He now has 18-caps for the international side since making his debut in November 2017, and has scored one goal.That goal came against Argentina at the World Cup, a stunning strike from the edge of the box that was votedgoal of the tournament.Pavard’s arrival comes at the same time German defender Mats Hummels has been linked with a move away from the Allianz.Hummels has fallen out of favour with manager Niko Kovac, with his agent rumoured to have travelled to London to meet with Premier League club representatives.3

When asked about the Pavard rumours back in December, the manager said: “I still think he is a very good player, but we have three centre-backs [Boateng, Hummels and Sule]“It makes no sense to get a fourth and a fifth, I don’t think we will get him in January.” Meanwhile, Bayern also confirmed their interest in Chelsea teenager Callum Hudson-Odoi.He is a very interesting player we really want to sign, Salihamidzic told German newspaper Bild, adding that he sees him as an ideal fit in Munich.
