Lovre Kalinic has agreed to join Aston Villa in January, the Championship club have confirmed. The Croatia international goalkeeper will officially become a Villa player on January 1 when the transfer window opens. He will sign a four-year contract until 2023, with Villa believed to have paid a fee in the region on 7million.Kalinic currently plies his trade at Belgian club Gent and was a part of the Croatian squad which finished second at the 2018 World Cup in Russia.Head coach Dean Smith said: We are delighted to be signing someone of Lovres experience and quality.“He is an outstanding goalkeeper and we are looking forward to welcoming him when he joins at the beginning of January. Kalinic has been a long-term target for the Villains and his arrival will represent Smith’s first signing as head coach. The club almost signed Kalinic last season, but a failure to secure promotion to the Premier League ended their hopes of completing the deal. They also tried to get him in 2016 but could not secure a work permit.
